Chuño Blanco 425g – Naturally Freeze Dried White Potatoes
White Chuño is part of the traditional cuisine of the southern highlands of Peru and Bolivia alti-plano.
These exotic spuds are prepared from special tubers planted 3,800 meters above sea level. The potatoes are prepared by a completely natural process carried out by the women of the Quechua and Aymara populations. White Chuño has been prepared for centuries by peasant highlanders for its high nutritional value. This feature today has attracted interest from private and public institutions to study the benefits of this ancestral product. Bolivians call this variety of Chuño “Tunta” but it also comes in various other colours. The Incas used Chuño as a strategic food reserve for food security purposes though out their empire due to its exceptional long shelf life, of as much as up to 10 years!
